Newark Detective Busted With Heroin, Marijuana, Authorities Say A 41-year-old Newark police detective was arrested and charged on Thursday, June 20, with multiple drug offenses. Ricardo Garden was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of heroin, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Garden was jailed on Friday, June 21 and released on Saturday, June 22,  the Essex County Department of Corrections website shows. As a result of his arrest, Garden has been suspended without pay, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Garden has been on the force since November 2015, Fragé said.

Man Shot In East Orange, Police Say A 24-year-old East Orange man was shot on the evening of Monday, June 24, authorities said. At 7:25 p.m., officers responded to 210 S. Burnet Street and found the man shot in the right ankle, East Orange police said. He was treated and released from University Hospital, police said. Police are looking for four suspects who were wearing masks and fled the scene in a white Mercedes Benz sedan, officers said. The shooting remains under investigation, police said. At 5:05 a.m. on Frontage Road in Clinton, a motorcyclist was traveling on Frontage Road when a deer entered the roadway and was struck by the motorcycle, Charles Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.
