A 9-year-old girl who was strangled to death in New York begged to get out of a trip to Ethiopia with her father, who is accused of killing her, according to testimony heard Tuesday, July 28.
Melina Frattolin instead traveled through New York and Connecticut with her dad, Luciano, for multiple weeks in the summer of 2025, according to authorities.
Kali Galanis, Melina’s mother and Luciano’s ex-wife, testified Tuesday that Melina told her “she didn’t want to go” with her father to Ethiopia, the New York Post reported.

The Greater Hartford Jewish community is mourning the loss of Rabbi Stephen Lewis Fuchs, Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation Beth Israel, who died after suffering a catastrophic stroke, his family announced.
"Our family is devastated to announce that our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Rabbi Stephen Lewis Fuchs suffered a catastrophic stroke on July 19th," his family said in an announcement on social media.
"After a week in hospice surrounded by his loving family, he passed away peacefully on July 26th. (13th of Av)."

Motorcyclist Killed In Crash ID'd As 69-Year-Old CT Man
Authorities have identified a motorcyclist killed in a weekend crash as a 69-year-old Connecticut man.
Mark Floryan, of Tariffville, was involved in the crash at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday, July 26, on Route 189 near the intersection of Peck Orchard Road in Granby, police said Tuesday.
Responders found Floryan seriously injured after the two-vehicle crash, and crews airlifted him to Hartford Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The other driver involved in the crash, a 50-year-old man, was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with police, authorities said.
