A World War II veteran and lunar module designer celebrated his 100th birthday Wednesday, Aug. 26 on Long Island.
William “Bill” Meunier was part of some of the world’s biggest events, but he credits his longevity to one person — his wife, Bernadine. When asked about the secret to a 100-year life, he replied simply: “Having a good wife, of course.”
“At 36, I didn’t think I’d meet the right person, but I certainly did,” Meunier told Daily Voice ahead of his celebration. “And I’m still here at 100.”

NY Horse Trainer Guilty Of Animal Cruelty Dodges Jail Time: Authorities
A New York horse trainer convicted on three counts of animal cruelty will not serve any jail time, authorities announced Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Andrea Nussinow, 64, of Tivoli, will instead pay a $1,750 fine, spend three years on probation, and complete 100 hours of community service, the Columbia County District Attorney’s office said.
Additionally, Nussinow was banned from owning any horses, though she was allowed to petition the court to possess two horses in the future, according to prosecutors. All 13 of Nussinow’s horses were seized in her July 2024 arrest.

Several victims of a postal worker’s theft operation on Long Island have been identified, authorities said Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Jovanni Jamison-Lewis, 36, of Mastic Beach, was indicted Wednesday on 20 charges for the brazen scheme, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Jamison-Lewis worked as a clerk at Oakdale Post Office and routinely opened mail and removed gift cards, investigators said. When cops searched Jamison-Lewis’s home in November 2025, they found 20 pieces of stolen mail, prosecutors said.

A New York man called for a cab, then tried to kill the driver and stole the vehicle, authorities said.
Jonathan Tejada, 32, of Scotia, was indicted Wednesday, Aug. 26 on first-degree attempted murder and other charges for the attack on the cabbie at a Motel 6 at 2700 Curry Road in Colonie on Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Albany County District Attorney’s office said.
