stillaranch,
Sometimes our Municipal & School Leaders are in a 'NO Win' situation, if a potential safety incident may have happened with the Snow Storm would people maybe thus be bantering 'why was their School open'? Plus potentially shifting their concerns on to the School Administration for having School, maybe a no win situation? I remember a few years ago when a School Bus got stuck in snow on Rocky Road. Parent's were very upset at the School Administration for not calling off School on that day in question, if I remember correctly.
Plus I think the Town's Municipal Liability Insurance Policy premiums may be over $100,000 a year. So liability may also be a concern in potentially Massachusetts being an above average Law Suit's filed per the 50 State average, if I recall?.
You may wish to review the Town's new 2012-2013 Snow and Ice Program it may answer some of your concerns on Plowing and Sanding. A copy is on the Towns website, and a copy was sent in the recent Voter list certification sent out by the Town. I think the Town's DPW Executive Officer recently discussed it at a Board Of Selectmen's Meeting. View Comment
stillaranch,
I am reserving comment on when today's Snow & Ice Operations began, that may only be answered by our DPW Officers and Town Officials. Usually the DPW Director or his Executive Officer are at the Board Of Selectmen Meeting following a Storm. To do a review with the Board Of Selectmen of how the Snow Operations went and to answer any questions, maybe they will also review this storm at the next Board Of Selectmen's meeting.
On the informative 2012-2013 DPW Snow and Ice program I would imagine our Town Official's would have had to approve it before sending it out to the Taxpayers? I would imagine their must have been a public comment time frame on it also?
On the Budget I thought the DPW Official at the last Board Of Selectmen's Meeting advised the Snow and Ice Budget of $70,000 had been used up and they are now deficit spending on that? If I recall?
Plus I think the DPW's annual $1 Million Dollar Budget may have been level funded at that amount for seven or eight years? View Comment
brucekc,
If their is still a possible 'Snow Emergency' in the big City Hills of Worcester you may wish to make some relevant phone calls before going. View Comment
Union Man,
Maybe watch for a possible conclusive statement when all the possible facts are digested by the authorities.
Some may also try to question the Police for not stopping the vehicle earlier, or why not this or that? Sometimes our Public Servants are in a no win situation.
Union Man if it was a perfect World we may not need Police Officer's also?
Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this incident.. View Comment
Read my first post reference your concern and my concern for the clerk, after that I responded to the other poster.
"Again our thoughts are with the Store Clerk", and hopefully the Criminal aspect is resolved by the Police shortly. View Comment

The Recession Really Started in June:
Wednesday, 11 Jul 2012 07:36 AM
Experts at the National Bureau of Economic Research will meet one day to decide the official start date of the next recession.
This meeting will probably take place about two years from now because they always meet well after the recession has started. The NBER is the official historian on economic growth and they move slowly to avoid mistakes.
When they finally meet, the data they rely on will point to the fact that a slowdown started in June. From here, we can expect that the economy 'will get worse' before it gets better.

'12 Reasons US Recession Has Arrived (Or Will Shortly)'
I am amused by the Shadow Weekly Leading Index Project which claims the probability of recession is 31%. I think it is much higher.
When the NBER, the official arbiter of recessions finally backdates the recession, May or June of 2012 appear to be likely months. Let's take a look at why.
US Manufacturing PMI
Market reports PMI signals weakest manufacturing expansion in 11 months
Key points:
PMI lowest since July 2011, suggesting slower rate of manufacturing expansion
Rate of output growth broadly unchanged
New orders rise at weakest pace in four months
Input costs fall for first time in three years

Plus the Middle Class who's wages have been stagnant for 10 years, down sized, benefits cut, the unaccounted Unemployed, people working three Part-Time Jobs, Seniors On Fixed Incomes, long term Unemployed, they know the real deal without doing any Google Search's they live it everyday.
I and maybe others believe in the local Police Dispatch Logs published in the Daily Voice, to include Crimes reported on the local News Channels to be the judge of local Crime percentages. Some are from the old days when people made their own informed decision's.
I guess we just disagree, Oh-Well. View Comment
Conflicting Arguments or debates can be made on both the Economy and Crime Rates.
Economy:
Did the recession begin in July? If so, expect an ugly 2013!
2 DECEMBER 2012
by Fabius Maximus
Summary: Many US economic indicators have fallen off their peaks, some entering typical pre-recessionary levels. That’s bad, since the fiscal deficit and unemployment are already at recessionary levels. That’s a ugly place to start the downturn. And the recession it might have already begun.
So, with about a month to go before year-end, what do the hard data tell us about where we are in the business cycle? Reviewing the indicators used to officially decide U.S. recession dates, 'it looks like the recession began around July 2012'. This is because, in retrospect, three of those four coincident indicators – the broad measures of production, income, employment and sales – saw their high points in July (vertical red line in chart), with only employment still rising.

I hope no one was injured in this Robbery, our thoughts are with the Store Clerks.
For those that remember the very bad economy during the President Ford and Carter years, the crime rate was also high during those times. People should review the Crime Prevention tips on our Police Departments website in these economic uncertain times. View Comment
'A Special Christmas'
A Special Christmas it was 1962, as a Nation we had just come through the Cuban Missile Crisis. A family in our neighborhood was going through some very difficult times, and their Christmas did not look to promising with one of the parents in the Hospital.
In early December when the family left their house heading to the Hospital, Neighbor's would cook meals and leave groceries on their front porch. As Christmas approached neighbors left presents for the family also on the front porch. I also remember local charity's also helping the family also, but it was the Neighborhood spirit that stood out the most to me through life.
As you move on in life you realize how important it was to that family, and for a child to have at least 'one present to open up on Christmas morning'. To this day I donate to Toys for Tots, and putting something in the Salvation Army Pot at the Holiday times. The parent did recover and we as neighbors received special home made thank you cards from the family that special Christmas. As I have aged it was a special Christmas Gift of giving and the Neighborhood spirit that I will always remember on the Holidays, and a natural gift for the rest of my life.. View Comment

I to will miss Aubuchons and their nice staff that worked their, I agree they were very helpful.
Some say the Country went back into Recession in June of this year, and Food Stamps, Unemployment Claims, are at their highest level since the Government has been keeping records on their use.
A lot of Pink Slips out there and people's work hour's are also getting cut back also. I agree Familyman it is a bad time just before the Holidays. Lets remember the Salvation Army Bell Ringer's and Toys for Tots, and other Charity's for those that can afford it this year.
The Daily Voice is excellent in publishing Good Will and Charity Groups that help people in the local area also that are in need. View Comment
