At one time, I was thinking of starting a bus company in Blackstone Valley. That idea died on the vine when I learned about the complications of starting such a venture. That being said, it's about time that we get bus service. I remember taking the Worcester to Providence bus when I was a little kid going to school. Back then, it cost 10 cents to ride from the village to whitinsville. How can Webster have bus service and Blackstone Valley doesn't? View Comment

I have no problem with the storm response by the DPW. It was a nasty storm and people have to expect that it takes a while to recover from such an event; especially since the DPW isn't the main priority in any town. That being said, I do have a bone to pick with the DPW. I recently called the town manager and also talked to Jim Shuris about the overabundance of salt being dumped on the town's roads. It wasn't just a case of applying too much. It was more of a case of laziness by someone applying it. At the ends of many streets, there laid a pile of salt because the driver never shut the spreader off when coming to a stop. Also, areas that should not be receiving large of amounts of salt were getting too much. No sooner than a couple of days after talking to Mr Shuris, there was a sizable pile of rock salt 30' long at the top of Carpenter Road. That salt is going to wash down and enter Carpenter Reservoir. Carpenter Reservoir directly enters Meadow Pond directly adjacent to the Carr Street wells. As our town has grown, we have an increased dependence on those wells. I have never really noticed this problem before. So, it looks to be a recent development. The veterans of the DPW have always taken great care in putting down salt. Something has changed and I would appreciate someone looking into it. My health and my truck would appreciate it. View Comment

I am following Grafton's David and Goliath story with interest. The railroads have successfully fought for pre-exemption laws for a long time. I hope that Grafton has deep pockets because this could get messy. Here in Northbridge, there have been questions arising out of P&W Railroad and what they have done as far as dumping trap rock in the river to help prevent erosion to their tracks. If this trap rock is filling the channel, then flooding will increase in the village of Rockdale. The new bridge south of the village will help very little in preventing this. View Comment

No one got hurt other than terrorizing a young college student. They have to catch this guy soon. If he gets away with it for any length of time, I'm afraid we will be seeing more of this sort of thing. View Comment

Walmart did not steal any of my business that they didn't already have; mainly paint. As far as other hardware, I would never buy it at Walmart. The Walmart at plummers was run way better than the Super Walfart. I'm a landlord and I supported Aubuchon's as much as could. Could I have done better? Certainly I could have; especially if I had known they were in trouble. Just in the last couple of years, the church at Northbridge Center has closed along with the American Legion Hall in Rockdale and Aubuchon's in Whitinsville. Let this be a lesson to all of us to support our local businesses and institutions as much as possible. Once they are gone, they are gone forever. View Comment

This is very sad and very short sighted by Aubuchons. People are going back to a village way of life; not the other way around. I kind of doubt Walmart has anything to do with it. Koopman's was more of a competitor than Walmart. However, I remember when Northbridge supported two Aubuchons and Koopman Lumber. I will miss the personal service and the most stuff you could cram into a little space that you will ever find. Anyone want to open a hardware store? Good luck to the employees! View Comment
