GRAFTON, Mass. - April may bring the Boston Marathon but for many local runners, the more attainable goal is the Grafton Gazebo 5 Mile Road Race.
The 23rd annual edition of the run, which meanders on a course from the Grafton Police Station, up around Grafton Common and back to the Municipal Center, takes to the streets on Saturday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m.
The Grafton Recreation Commission is now taking pre-registrants for the race, which annually attracts hundreds of runners from around Central Mass. The race has both top finishers for men and women as well as winners in each age group ranging from age 12-over 60.
T-shirt pickup and race day registration starts at 8 a.m. Pre-register online at www.grafton-ma.gov. Pre-registration is $15, day of race is $20.
Returning this year before the road race is the Children's Fun Run, sponsored by the Grafton Recreation Commission and Together We Can. The popular events were canceled last year due to the construction of the new Grafton High School but this year will mark the first time they will be held at on the Richard Egsegian Memorial Memorial Field.
Events kick off at 8:45 a.m. Children can participate in the 100-yard dash for kids 5 and under, half-mile for kids 6-9 and one mile for kids 10 and over.
Children may register through the Grafton Recreation Office at the Municipal Center or sign up the day of the race at the Grafton High School track, 8-8:30 a.m.
