HOLDEN, Mass. —  In an effort to help incoming students transition to a new school, the administration of Mountview Middle School is inviting parents and new sixth, seventh and eighth-graders to tour the building.

"A lot of kids start getting nervous this time of year thinking about going to a new school, as it's only a few weeks down the road," said Mountview Principal Erik Githmark.

Whether it's incoming sixth-graders, students who recently moved into the community, or even past students who haven't spent much time on the eighth-grade floor, Githmark said the tours help make the kids more comfortable with what to expect before school starts.

Tours will begin in the main lobby and will be conducted by a school administrator who will "provide an opportunity to welcome new students and families to the Mountview community and help to reduce first day jitters."

Mountview's administration is also busy preparing for the start of the new school year.

"At this time of year we're concerned about getting the facility ready, that teachers have the materials they need for the upcoming year and that all the organizational pieces fall into place," said Githmark. "We want to make sure that when kids come in on the first day everything works smoothly and that it's a great day for them, they're excited about being here, and that they feel welcome."

Three tours will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Thursday Aug. 23.

Additionally, for students who ordered the SchoolKidz School Supply Kit, they will be available for pick-up at the office beginning Monday, Aug. 13, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Mountview is located at 270 Shrewsbury Street in Holden.
