This election is about whether the plutocrats can buy the election for Romney with all their billions, post-Citizens' United opening the floodgates for anonymous corporate cash, vs. a populist moderate like Obama, who has done a good job digging us out of an awful hole against traitorous opposition from Republicans, who threw us all under the bus to make Obama look bad. Publicly fund elections, with instant runoff voting, and we can have more than 2 candidates and maybe actual good policy-making. Outlaw the revolving door between Congress and the lobbying business. Amend the Constitution to say that corporations are not people and cash is not free speech. We won't accomplish any of this if we keep arguing about the wrong stuff. Do you hear me, Tea Party?

This POTUS is an inept as they come, THAT is was what very evident during the debate. He wasn't even intelligent enough to surround himself with competent advisors. Instead, he installed an unprecedented number of radical czars and consults with every leftist radical he could find. I believe I read that a miniscule 8% of his advisors have ever worked in the private sector. All these people know is government. America as we know it will not survive another four years of this man. If you think things are bad now, wait until he is unleashed because he 'has more flexibility after the election'. It's time to send the community organizer back to Chicago.

Radical czars? Leftist radicals? This is what Bill Maher calls the right-wing bubble. What adminidstration have you been living under for the last four years? This president is as centrist as can be, too centrist for many of us. Barack Obama unleashed tries to insure every American using private sector insurance companies, not single payer as many of us would have prefered.

Oooh, such a radical leftist.

President Obama is the intelligent choice. It was very evident during that debate.

Remember, dear citizens: no matter what you do this election season, your electors will be voting for President Obama.

The right-wing portrait of President Obama painted here is an unrecognizable caricature that doesn't exist in the real world.

Clint Eastwood babbling to an invisible man in a chair versus a cogent, detailed explication of the sane, reasonable policies of the president by President Clinton.

Get out and vote, folks.

The Republicans can't run against President's Obama's record. So they make stuff up because it is easier to run against a fantasy then his achievements.

What achievements the GOP sputters!
Osama bin Laden is dead. America is safer. Thank you President Obama.

Osama bin Laden is dead...President Obama "didn't build that". It took years of careful planning by military and intelligence agencies including before he took office. Obama was just lucky enough to get to "push the button"... and he had 3 prior opportunities that he did not take, so I hear.

Hilarious. Someone else killed bin Laden. Come hell or high water, just can't give this president credit for anything.

Yeah, as a matter of fact someone else DID kill Bin Laden. Of course you all are quick to point out that the economy was wrecked by 8 years of the Bush administration but all of the intelligence that went into hunting down Bin Laden happened over night.

Joe Isuzu for President.

Good read for anyone wanting to vote for the current president:

From the website which picks and chooses numbers.
"Today, an astounding 49.1 percent of all Americans live in a home where at least one person receives benefits from the government."
My mother in law lives on Social Security.
My niece's husband died in Iraq. She receives death benefits.
My father's pension is from the State of CT. He worked for the Ct, for 30 years.

Are you suggesting that these people should NOT be receiving a check from the government?

Hi John,

I have different views than you even though we are on opposite sides of the fence. I think what really needs to be stated is there should never have been 49.1 % of all Americans receiving some sort of benefit. Saying that number out loud is astounding. When you reach a number like that you have to say something has gone seriously wrong and it has. We should not be OK with this number at all. People need to take more responsibility for their lives, decisions, and future. Keep in mind we pay these benefits with a debt money. when I run my business and when the money runs out I go out of business. This is inevitable with our government on our current course.

I want to say thank you and God bless to your nephew and niece's sacrifice. God bless your mother in law and hard work throughout her tax paying life. Your father paid his dues and should be paid what he was promised and paid into.

The above mentioned are what should be taken care of. No one disputes that. Take care of our veterans and families, take care of our elderly.

My question is do you have a problem when illegal aliens (undocumented immigrants) are given tax paid benefits to attend our schools when our own children can not receive these benefits and the illegal's have not paid into the system?

Do you have a problem when decisions like the DREAM act are passed by executive order instead of congress to appease a social/ethnic group before an election?

Do you have issues with MA state benefits being spent in Florida? EBT cards can be used for things like alcohol and scratch tickets. This is the waste that a lot of us are concerned with?

Should unemployment last 2 years when it was designed for only less than 26 weeks. Where does the money come from? We just keep printing it.

Tough decisions have to be made and we can't keep on spending when we don't have the money. Our children are the ones who are going to pay for yours and our over abundance of abuse.

I believe it is now time to take a hard stand and along the way some people are going to lose their free tax paid benefits.

We have difficult decisions to make and people to choose from.

Best wishes to your family and your decisions.

Taking care of the old people is very expensive.
My grandmother forgot who she was. She needed 24 hour care. She needed to be put on the pot, washed, feed, and dressed.
The cost of this was $96,000 a year. A kindergarten teacher's pension is not $96,000 a year. Multiple her by all the baby boomers who have not saved. What happens when they run out of money? Should they be rolled into a snow bank? Are you willing to pay more in taxes to support them?

Gran Gran worked in Wisc, her whole life and my mother looked over her care in CT where she lived. So I really have no problem with Mass benefits being spent in FL in a similar situation.

EBT cards can longer be spent on the items you describe. But that waste is penny's on the dollar. If you want to cut some low hanging fruit cut the military spending.
We are spending more now to fight guys who can not afford socks, then the big bad Soviet Union of the 1980's. The Soviets had attack sub, tanks, jet aircraft, yet they were cheaper to fight.
The Taliban don't have any of the above why are we spending so much?

"The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion dollars for the first 42 presidents -- number 43 added $4 trillion dollars by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion dollars of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000 for every man, woman and child, that's irresponsible, that's unpatriotic.” ~ Barack Obama

The man has ZERO credibility with me.

Mr. President, if you were so worried about the financial direction that our country was/is headed, why did you do nothing about it when you had enough votes to pass anything you wanted? Instead you excellerated that spending to the point where we now have over $16 TRILLION in national debt. My son owes $51,000+ and he's 2 years old.

Regardless who wins, I am extremely troubled about the future of this nation as well as the prospects for our children.

The President did not have the 2 years to get stuff passed.
Remember that Minnesota Senatorial election in 2008? The one that pitted former SNL writer/cast member and Air America Radio host Al Franken against Republican incumbent Norm Coleman? That race dragged on forever, resulting in several challenges and recounts until the Minnesota Supreme Court finally concluded on June 30th, 2009, that Franken was indeed the winner. Franken wasn’t sworn into office until July 7th, 2009, a full six months after the 111th Congress had taken charge.

And it wasn’t even that easy. Even had Franken been seated at the beginning of the legislative session, the Democrats still would only have had a 59-41 seat edge. It wasn’t until late April of 2009 that Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter defected from the Republican Party to caucus with the Democrats. Without Franken, the Dems only had 58 votes.

But even that’s not entirely accurate, and the Dems didn’t have a consistent, reliable 58 votes. Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy was terminally ill with a brain tumor, and could only muster up the energy to vote on selected legislation. His presence could not be counted on, and thus his vote in the Senate could not be counted on. During the first year of the Obama presidency, due to his illness Kennedy missed 261 out of a possible 270 votes in the Senate, denying the Democrats the 60th vote necessary to break a filibuster. In March of 2009, he stopped voting altogether. It wasn’t until Kennedy passed away in late August, 2009, and an interim successor was named on September 24th, 2009, that the Democrats actually had 60 votes.

And even then the 60 vote supermajority was tenuous at best. At the time, then 91 year old Robert Byrd from West Virginia was in frail health. During the last 6 months of 2009, Byrd missed 128 of a possible 183 votes in the Senate. Byrd passed away on June 28, 2010 at the age of 92.

In all, Democrats had a shaky 60 vote supermajority for all of four months and one week; from the time Kennedy’s interim successor Paul Kirk was sworn in on September 24th until the time Republican Scott Brown

Keep that excuse machine fired up because you Libs are gonna need it!

Romney will kill more troops and you people love that. Go Merica!

I don't want to see more troops killed. Obama supported late term abortion, didn't he?

By the way, where did all the old anti-war protestors go when Obama was leading the US into Libya while continuing the war in Afganistan, etc. Is war "good" when a Democrat does it?

Obama showed how to defeat an enemy.
No US deaths in Libya and a dictator gone.
The question is why are not the neo-cons cheering such a move.
Is the spread of freedom only good when a Republican does it?

Where's Gary Johnson?

...or Jill Stein?

Here is my challenge to all voters.
Obtain a copy of the Manifesto of the Communist Party by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels and take the time to read it completely, it is less than one hundred pages in length. When you have finished, please make an honest comparison of what you read with the philosophy of Obama and some other Washington politicians.
If you are a true independent thinker you will take my suggestion. If you are too lazy to make the effort you probably will not.

The commies are coming, the commies are coming.

That's when you know the other side's got nothing.

Please don't be one who is too lazy to do a little research and make your own decision. Is the reading of the Manifesto, which is a relatively easy read of less than 100 pages, too much to ask? I hope this former Democrat never has to say "I told you so"!

Who says I haven't read it?

Was it recently?
I just re-read it last month and was shocked. I never wanted or expected this to be happening to our United States of America.
President Abraham Lincoln warned us of the enemy within.
"If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”
(A. Lincoln, 01/27/1838)

Since Wall St has recovered to post crash levels the Obama has to be the the most ineffective communist in history.

J Of Sherewsbury care to be a bit more specific. The 47% laugh at your tired comparisons of 3 months ago.
The 47% who might know as Nana, she receives a social security check as her primary means of support.
The 47% who might know as Eric, he lost a leg in Iraq and is currently learning a new skill.
The 47% who might know as Hannah, she is the police officer in the morning at the school.
The 47% who might know as Howard, he teachers at the public school.
As a 0.5% percenter, I am happy to pay my taxes. The purchase civilization.

Your comment implies that 100% of the "47%" are wonderful, deserving, model citizens that are just trying to make ends meet. What portion of the 47% are ruining the system for everyone else who really needs assistance?

It's careless to paint the full 47% with a broad, negative brush...However, how can you use the same flawed tactic in reverse?

Is there not any abuse of public assistance programs?

Why do we continue to borrow money we do not have from our enemies to give it our enemies. China is no allie of America nor is Libya.

In 2009 it cost me $1.8997 for a gallon of gasoline in 2012 it $3.9997

Since 1999, real median household income in the U.S. has declined by 7.1 percent.

In 2010, 46.2 million Americans were living in poverty, defined as living at or below the benchmark established in the FPG, compared to 31.6 million in 2000.

$2.4 billion in support in 2012 for free CELL PHONES (not a necessity by any means); that compares to an inflation-adjusted $582 million it provided in 1998.

It is time to slow the run-a-way train....

Who would you support... ?

Fair enough, but it was Trillions long before Obama showed up, and as a percentage increase of the previous deficit, Obama’s spending increase falls behind both of the Bush’s and Reagan as well. Question though: If your numerous small businesses were failing because a certain group of your employees were sabotaging every management move you tried to make as the executive, would you fire the employees or yourself? Like the Red Sox, should they fire the manager or trade the players? (that was an analogy by the way). And no I’m not at home. I’m at work for an Engineering services company that provides a service for fortune 500 companies in the computer, communications, and medical device industries, and we’re not as busy as we should be because our customers companies led by Mitt Romney types, have outsourced their operations to India and China. Just keep in mind, that if your businesses are in the central MA area many of your customers are probably Liberals, like ME!

Liberal, please, you got to hold him accountable at some point. He added 5.1 trillion to the long term debt. His budget was rejected by everyone in Congress (494 - 0) and the Senate (98 - 0). We have had 2 major credit downgrades. His stimulus package was a failure by his own stated goals. His foriegn policy of embracing the Muslim Brotherhood is heating up the Middle East. They want to eradicate Israel and destroy Western Civilization and we are trying to send them $450 million in aid. Our Fed. is implementing QE3 which will kill our dollar make everything go up. Our
Seniors are getting screwed because they are forced into stocks and cannot get a return on their CDs. If the market plunges after the election, what are they going to do.

I was a Democrat for most of my life in the conservative mold of JFK. I cannot support what they are doing to this country. When you have one of you top cabinet saying that she admires Mao Tse Tung, you got to question what they are doing. He was responsible for the deaths of 70 million with his repressive regime. All I can say is think of our kids and what will happen to them with these current policies.

Inflation is going to get us!
Inflation going to be cause by QE1? When that did not happen it was going to be cause by QE2. Still no inflation. It got to happen the 3rd time, since it did not happen the first 2 times but conservative ideology say it will.

The GOP seems to want to have US foreign police created NOT by Americans in the State department, but in Israel's Kassnet.

Republicans have obstructed from day one. It was Mitch McConnell's stated goal to make President Obama a one-term president. They never once negotiated in good faith with the president.

The stimulus was not a failure; it wasn't big enough -- as if Republicans would have gone for that.

Our credit downgrades took place after Repulicans irresponsibly held the debt ceiling hostage.

To say that the president has a foreign policy of embracing the Muslim Brotherhood is a noxious lie.

Seniors will be screwed all right, by the Romney/Ryan eradication of Medicare as we know it.

Up is down. Night is day. Someone has been drinking too much Fox News Kool Aid.

"employees were sabotaging every management move "... sounds like the autoworkers' unions, eh? ;)

...but seriously, unions are people, corporations are people...we're not just Liberals and Conservatives, we're just people, and we all have flaws. I think most of us want to see the country succeed but we don't agree on how. (Which makes sense as we are 50 different states with many diverse needs...)

A good solid leader can certainly help with that issue.

People wish for Obama to save us, people wish for Romney to save us... but the office of President is still just one flawed human at the end of the day. Perhaps it is a matter of leaders needing to answer to a higher calling?

Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich...a dream ticket!

I just love the simpleton Republicans, "if the country was a little store" "if the country was my car" well it's not, it's the largest most complicated economy in the world, and it's dependent on foreign countries to buy our goods. And no President or Store Manager or Mechanic is going to "fix it" when 50% of the employees are trying to sabotage his/her efforts. Education, Health Care, Investment in new technologies, maintaining a clean environment, ending war. These are the slow changes that will bring prosperity in the LONG run. Not further tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. Mitt Romney will do what he has done in the private sector, ship the jobs overseas and avoid paying his fair share in taxes. And speaking of simpletons, learn how to spell Hi"GH"er. Hirer sheeesh, and twice to boot!

To: Mr. Liberal,

Thank you for pointing out my spelling mistakes. I will make sure to run them through a spell checker the next time I care about your condescending opinion. I do love a Liberal response that must use name calling and negative approaches to get their high horse opinions battered down to good hard working people. This is a quick comment on a website not a speech that I am being graded on. If you knew me you would not be so quick to insult me. This is nothing new and is expected from a liberal such as yourself.

Like most hard working Americans we try to put this subject in a manner in which you might understand. I am sorry your didn't understand the analogy.
Below is a definition.

An analogy is comparable to metaphor and simile in that it shows how two different things are similar, but it’s a bit more complex. Rather than a figure of speech, an analogy is more of a logical argument. The presenter of an analogy will often demonstrate how two things are alike by pointing out shared characteristics, with the goal of showing that if two things are similar in some ways, they are similar in other ways as well.

It is clear you are a continuing Obama supporter. You are entitled to your opinion. I do agree the problems we are in, are going to take a long time to fix. But these problems do not get fixed by throwing more money at them or by having the government run take overs.

If you look at the trillions that are being spent by Obama and you complain about billions in tax breaks it is clear you do not have an understanding of simple math. I want you to take a pencil and write out both numbers and than count the zeros and also have you count by ones from 1 billion to 1 trillion. when you get done hopefully you can understand the difference.

Simple math.

So for us simpleton Republicans (I do consider myself an Independent) I am looking for a person who will best run the country out of the choices we have. I may not be happy with the choices but it is a choice. As Obama stated he cannot fix Washington from the inside. So who can? I will NOT vote for our current Democratic leader.

I also won't insult you on a public forum with simpleton name calling.
So I believe we will agree to disagree and hopefully in four years after the election we have made a better decision for our children and our families.

Please check my spelling here as well because I have to get back to running several small business that Obama said I did not do on my own. Get back to my employees and vendors that I help provide jobs for and support. I hope you as can say the same and are not just sitting at home spell checking comments all day.

Best wishes.

Mitt Romney doesn't use a teleprompter? President Obama leveled horrendous debt when it was Bush who didn't pay for two wars or his tax cuts? Our prestige around the world has declined? Evidence?

Romney is wholly owned by Wall St. and the Koch brothers. If he wins he will appoint Supreme Court judges who will overturn Roe and the Voting Rights Act. He and Ryan want to voucherize Medicare and kill public education.

No thanks.

Maximus, Obama took issue with Bush about running up the debt. He put 5.1 trillion on to that figure in 4 years. His stimulus created hardly any jobs and it was because they made poor choices in the stimulus investments.

I am not sure about our prestige around the world? Are you kiddin me, the whole Middle East is blowing up. President Obama made the choice of supporting the Arab Spring. I know the dictators were not princes but Libya is killing our Ambassador, a Navy Seal and couple other officials and our President is call it a bump in the road. The Egyptian President states clearly that we want to wipe Israel off the map and destroy Western Civilization. And our President is sending them $450 million. Are you kiddin me.

I would like to hear some actual facts about what went so well the last 4 years. Everything steers clear of the economy and jobs. As Jack Welch said would you rather have a guy who has a history of creating jobs and running a company or a guy who passed out pamphlets at community meetings.

Obama hasn't created jobs? On what planet do you live?

Not kiddin' at all. Your analysis of the president's responsibility for instability in the Middle East is mind-boggling. The US president can control the internal combustion of infant governments or countries still struggling to form governments? Should we strong-arm them as in Iraq and Afghanistan? Can't wait for a replay.

Our European allies are terrified of a Romney presidency with its cadre of old Cheney neoconservative warmongering advisors.

Romney harvested for profit. President Obama has run the country for four years whether you approve of it or not. He has gone far beyond community organizing.

Look at the polls. People are beginning to feel better about the economy, most like the president, even the Affordable Care act is becoming more and more popular as people realize its advantages. Mitt himself is beginning to re-embrace it (on alternate days of the week anyway).

As for what Jack Welch says .... I don't much care.

I guess your not kiddin. I cannot even respond to you when it has been debunked by CNN that the net jobs produced in his 4 years was 125,000 jobs as opposed to the 5 million he says.

He supported the Egyptian government whose President called for Israel to be wiped off the map and to conquer Western Civilization. Now he wants to send the same guy $450 million.

As far as warmongering Neocons, this is just old liberal rhetoric. Peace through strength is the order of the day.

He ran the country where he could not even pass a budget and get 1 vote in congress and the senate put together. 494 - 0 and 98-0 on Obama's budget. Ran up debt in his 4 years (5.1 trillion) which is more than all of the presidents added up together before GW. So I can you are right about him running the country, running the country into the ground.

I hope you never get sick with cancer and be brought to the health panels. It is written and documented what they are going to do to in Daschles book and straight out of Obamas lips. They will not pay for the expensive medicines. As we found out last night, insurance premiums went up $2500 rather than going down by $2500.

I guess we are just getting our facts from different sources.

Come on, you don't seriously believe that Roe v. Wade is going to get knocked out if Romney gets elected, do you? The president doesn't really hold that power. Besides, Justice Roberts was put in by Bush, and he still let Obamacare stand. Democrat presidents appoint justices too...it all balances out.

...and I don't think it's a bad thing to ask voters to show ID, although it might disenfranchise all the dead pets who want to vote...

When only hard right ideologies judges will be appointed by a Republican President, yea I worry.

When the president can't get judges to the Senate floor for an up or down vote. When the Senate Judiciary committee approves them. I worry.

Will Scott Brown toe this party line? He votes against them only 4% of the the time.

I listen to the debates and to me it seems pretty simple. Democrat, Republican, or independent.

If you hire a manager of your store on a four year contract to turn the store around. In those four years he makes things worse. He does not live up to his promises of change. The store loses more money than it ever has. The store does not thrive. The store's reputation becomes worse. The store goes substantially further in debt. Do you rehire back that manager for another four years? I don't care how nice he is or how well he talks. The question is did he do the job you hired him for in the time period "HE SAID" he could do the work in. Of course you don't!! You hire another manager in hopes he can do the job better.

When you look around there nothing that is better. Gas is hirer, education costs are hirer, more people on unemployment than ever, or people have just given up. I'm sorry if your really don't like the other guy 100%, no one is perfect.

You never rehire a guy that continues to break things worse!!

And what really t's me off is that our current manager does not take responsibility for his four years. The current manager still blames the past manager. It doesn't matter who stated the problem, it matters that you UNDERSTAND, who, what, and where. That you correct the problem not make it worse. Show me the plan to make things better.

Let's make a change. Get out and vote.

The previous manager's plan drove the store into collapse.

The current manager is improving the store but not fast enough.

There is a manager who want to run the store. He says he will do the SAME THINGS that lead to the store collapse in the first place.

The current manager thinks if he can just sit back and continue painting a hopeful vision, everyone else below him will magically make things work and he'll take the credit.

In my opinion, Obama's a BS artist... it's the same thing kids did when I was in school: make a big, flashy, emotional presentation with multimedia, and it's an automatic A+ (or at least a "solid B+") because everyone feels good afterwards. Meanwhile, you don't have to put out much in the way of real work or practicable solutions.

Is Romney better? Well, he might not be able to sing Al Green, but then we don't need someone who can sing, do we? America has no shortage of inspiration. The president is not supposed to be a celebrity or an entertainer... the president is supposed to be an executive.

Romney has a history of successfully completing tasks even if it included tough decisions with which you might disagree or think to be "unfair". He will work to get the task done, and not get caught up in the sideshows and parties like our current pres. My impression of Romney is that he's a buttoned-up workaholic who would have no problem living in the office 24/7 to get things done...why do you think he seems stiff when he tries to do fun things? I think he enjoys working his butt off. That's the successful executive mind set.

The stakes are high. I'd much rather have a rubber-meets-the-road executive in the oval office than just another inspirational, idealistic celebrity-in-chief. Romney's still got Obama beat in management experience.

I'm not sure why you're so worried, though because Obama's a shoe-in in MA, right?

My campaign sign was stolen and a rock was thrown at my house.

I remember in the GOP primaries when the candidates were asked about a poor person being outside a hospital and being unable to afford treatment. They cheered for a person to die. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED1JUyKhQ0E&feature=related

These people make me very afraid.

John, that sort of behavior is wrong and makes me scared as well.

Unfortunately, I think the proplem of people being uncivilized idiots is independent of party affiliations. Video clips of this kind make it easy for people on one side or the other to portray a whole political movement in a negative light.

I would say that we are facing times where anonymity and extreme polarization encourage some idiots to do anything to get attention. It is very frightening because it short-circuits an orderly democratic problem-solving approach for the country.

I don't think Republicans or Democrats really want anyone to die for lack of treatment...they just disagree on which system will fund it better.

That is terrible that you had a sign stolen and a rock thrown at your house... there is no excuse for that kind of behavior.
