Holden Sees High Mid-day Election Turnout

HOLDEN, Mass. ‒ Holden voters came out early and have headed to the polls in large numbers throughout the day. The turnout by mid-afternoon was 45 percent.

Lines formed outside Holden's five precincts before polls opened at 6 a.m., and after just three hours 17.1 percent of the town's 12,917 registered voters had cast ballots, surpassing Holden's total turnout of 16 percent in the last local election.

By 2 p.m., 5,914 voters had already participated, bringing mid-day turnout to 45.8 percent.

Holden Town Clerk Cheryl Jenkins said everything was running smoothly, and that although a tabulator went down temporarily at about 1 p.m. at Precinct 5, she was able to get it back into action in no time.

• Precinct 1 ‒ Senior Center, 1130 Main St.

• Precinct 2 ‒ Senior Center, 1130 Main St.

• Precinct 3 – Davis Hill School, 80 Jamieson Road. Use Highland Street entrance.

• Precinct 4 ‒ Mountview School, 270 Shrewsbury St.

• Precinct 5 ‒ Light Department, 1 Holden St.
