HOLDEN, Mass. - Marilyn F. (Dodge) Griffin Dougall, 81, a 70-year resident of Rutland, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 12, after a long term illness.
She was born in Everett, the daughter of William F. and Mary (Rigby) Dodge, and moved to Rutland with her family at an early age.
Her husband, James W. Dougall, died in 2005. Her first husband, William H. Griffin, Jr. died in 1980. Marilyn is survived by her two sons, Mitchell R. Griffin and his wife Catherine Burke Griffin of Glenmont, N.Y., and their children, Brendon Griffin of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Aaron Griffin of Glennont, N.Y. and Bridget Griffin of Hong Kong; and W. Ross Griffin and his wife Deborah Griffin of Shrewsbury, and their children, Lisa Carenzo and John-Ross Griffin, both of Shrewsbury and Mitchell Cory Griffin of San Francisco. She also leaves a great-grandson, Jack Riley Griffin of Shrewsbury.
Marilyn was a graduate of Rutland High School where she was a four year star on the girls' basketball team, a member of the senior play and the student council. Marilyn was a secretary in the Superintendent's Office for the Wachusett Regional School District for a number of years. Previously, she was a secretary at the office of both Dr. Cannon and Dr. Levin. She went back to work as a secretary at the Rutland VA Hospital after the birth of her second child.
Marilyn was a devout Catholic and loved being a member of St. Patrick's Church. She was a performing member of The Rutland Players, participating in numerous productions for the theater group over the years. She was a member of the "Beta Sigma Phi" sorority. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchild, acting (whether on stage or not), her Westie named "Willie", her Mastiff named "Duke" and her beloved New England Patriots.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Marilyn's life will be held on Monday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Rutland, followed by a gathering of friends and family.
Interment will be private in Rural Cemetery, Rutland. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Rutland Fire Brigade Rescue Fund, 240 Main St., Rutland, MA 01543. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
