Obituary: Lorraine E. (Arell) Fleming, 88

HOLDEN/WORCESTER, Mass. – Lorraine E. (Arell) Fleming, 88, died peacefully at her
son’s home in the presence of her loving family on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 after
an illness.

Born in North Oxford and raised in Jefferson, Lorraine was the daughter of
Louis and Lena (DeLude) Arell. She later resided in Worcester until returning to Holden
recently. Her beloved husband of 59 years, James T. Fleming, Sr. died in 2006.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her two sons, Michael J. Fleming and his
wife RoseAnn of Worcester and James T. Fleming, Jr. of Holden; a brother, Rene W.
Arell of Jefferson; two sisters, Rita C. Nygard of Holden and Jeanette L. Morin of
Leominster; five grandchildren, Michael, Christie, Jodi, Amanda and Thomas; two great-
grandchildren, Courtney and Joshua; several nephews and nieces. A daughter, Elizabeth
J. Miller and a brother, Richard Arell, predeceased her.

She graduated from Holden High School and Worcester Girls Trade School of Nursing.
She proudly served her country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World
War II. Lorraine was a senior licensed practical nurse at Worcester State Hospital for 20
years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the West Boylston VFW and the Marine
Corps League Detachment 144 in Worcester. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima
Church in Worcester and later St. Mary Church in Jefferson.

She enjoyed camping with her family and was known for her blueberry cake and sharing
its recipe which was passed down from previous generations. She will be remembered
for her zest for life and willingness to surprise her family and friends with her uncensored
sense of humor. She also loved her trips to Foxwoods Casino.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
Sept. 13, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
Funeral services for Lorraine will be held on Friday, September 14, at 9 a.m. from the
funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, 114 Princeton
Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards
Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Why Me, 1152 Pleasant
Street, Worcester, MA 01602.
