Obituary: Loretta (Steffon) Johns, 77

HOLDEN, Mass. - Loretta (Steffon) Johns, 77, of Holden died on Friday, Aug. 3, after a courageous battle with cancer which she fought with determination for 29 years.


She leaves her devoted husband of 55 years, William N. Johns; two daughters, Karen Dono and husband Howard of West Boylston, Sandra Dionis and husband Mark of Shrewsbury; one son, Mark Johns and his wife Julie of Holden. She also leaves a brother, Robert Steffon and his wife Diana also of Holden. She leaves nine grandchildren who were the love of her life, Jason, Kristin and Natasha Dono, Sydney and Zachary Dionis, Skyler, Willow, Koli, and Torin Johns.

She was born to Ligor and Efthemia (Dishnica) Steffon and was predeceased by her sister Alice, wife of James D. Pepi, and her brother, George Steffon also of Worcester. Loretta was a graduate of Worcester South High School and an active member of St.  Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church and its Women's Guild, where she was a past president.


The family would like to recognize Dr. Richard Horner and his staff at UMass Medical Center for the exceptional care that they provided Loretta, and a special thanks to Johnna Bacelis whose help and care was also truly appreciated.


Calling hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, August 6 at St Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, also at the St. Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Hope Cemetery in Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Endowment Fund-St Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church.

Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St. Worcester is directing arrangements.
