SHREWSBURY, Mass. - A 19-year-old Upton man died after falling approximately 30 feet off of a chair lift at Ski Ward on Wednesday night.
The teen, who was with the Nipmuc Regional High School ski team, fell from the chair lift and later died at UMass Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.
The boy fell from the lift to the icy ground and was found face down and unconscious. The name of the teenager will not be released at this time.
The Shrewsbury Fire Department responded to a call from Ski Ward at 6:45 p.m. when medical personnel on scene were performing CPR on the boy, according to Shrewsbury Fire Captain Mark Mann.
Shrewsbury firefighters and UMass Paramedics assisted in treating the boy and bringing him down the hill.
Ski Ward President John LaCroix said that there were no mechanical issues with the lift. He said they did close the lift for the night so that the police could investigate.
The State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office and Shrewsbury Police are investigating.
