SHREWSBURY, Mass. — More than 1,000 senior citizens from throughout Worcester County attended the Sheriff’s Annual Senior Picnic at SAC Park in Shrewsbury, boasting the biggest crowd in the history of the event.
“Hosting the annual senior picnic is one of the biggest highlights of the year," said Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis. "It’s always a great honor to give back to our seniors who have given so much to their communities."
The picnic, held Aug. 18, was sponsored by the Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Association and was helped by donations by many local businesses. It featured a traditional barbecue menu, cash bingo, raffle prizes, complementary gift bags and music. More than 100 volunteers assisted with the record-breaking turnout.
“This was the best senior picnic ever," said Sterling resident and senior picnic attendee Nancy Gerlach. "The sheriff really treated us to a special day of delicious food, raffles and bingo games. I cannot thank Sheriff Evangelidis enough for this wonderful day and his commitment to our county’s seniors.”
