HOLDEN, Mass. — Residents can help the Red Cross in their ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and available blood supply for the community by stopping by the The Red Cross mobile bus Wednesday at Woodmeister Master Builders in Holden.
Residents from all surrounding towns are invited to participate.
The Red Cross is hoping to collect at least 30 pints of blood at this drive, as the organization has to collect 3,000 pints of blood everyday to meet the basic needs of patients throughout the New England region.
In the United States, blood is needed for transfusions every two seconds. This blood can only come from caring volunteer donors. All blood types are needed, blood type O is the universal donor and always in great need.
Donors must be in good health, weigh 110 pounds or more, and have not given blood in the past 56 days to try to donate. The American Red Cross now requires a positive ID before donating. Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with a signed parental consent form.
On Wednesday, the mobile bus will be in the Woodmeister parking lot, One Woodmeister Way, in the Holden Industrial Park.
Appointments are preferred, but walk-in donors are welcome. To schedule an appointment to donate, call 1-800-REDCROSS or visit redcrossblood.org
