SHREWSBURY, Mass. — Local youths will have a chance to hear from the author of "The Silver Lining Playbook" at a conference in March at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury.

Matthew Quick will be the keynote speaker at the 23rd annual Betry Curtis Worcester County Young Writers' Conference.

Quick is also author of "Sorta Like A Rock Star" and "Boy 21." "The Silver Lining Playbook" was recently adapted as a film starring Jennifer Lawrence from "The Hunger Games."

Students interested in participating in the conference  must register by Feb. 1.

The conference is March 2 and is open to all students in grades 7 to 12. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The conference is a one-day event during which students attend workshops and readings and spend time writing in a supportive environment. Students attend several small and large group sessions, choosing from poetry, fiction, nonfiction and playwriting.
