Easton's Kaylee Says: Camp Jewell Is a Winner

EASTON, Conn. — If your children want crazed adventure, fun and maybe some new buddies this summer, then Camp Jewell in Colebrook is the perfect place for them! Camp Jewell lets your children experience teamwork and find out what fun really means.

The camp is gorgeous. It includes a shimmering lake, sunshine, green grass and flowers sprouting everywhere.

Camp Jewell is a friendly place where happy campers and trained counselors will sing hysterical work songs, sometimes with simple body rondos.

The children there will learn to share and work together through camouflage wars, scavenger hunts and other evening activities. Camp Jewell also fits in the art of learning to be responsible around animals. Its mini-farm contains critters such as rabbits, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and llamas. They host a "Llama Palooza" each Friday. Kids will take a nature walk around the camp, walking the llamas and holding the rabbits.

The meals in the mess hall are all ruled by the food pyramid, and include waffles, sandwiches and pasta, along with many more. They guarantee protein in every meal. Every age group becomes a tribe, so be sure to check out its website, listing all the details. Find out more at Camp Jewell YMCA.net. Remember, it's never too late to sign up!

Take it from me. I've already gone, and I'm sure to go again!

Kaylee O'Keefe is a 10-year-old student at Samuel Staples Elementary School.
