WESTPORT, Conn. Westport Little League's 10-year-old All-Stars play Wednesday for the Section 1 championship when they meet Edgewood at Peter J. Foley Little League Field in Naugatuck. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
"We're ready to go,'' Westport manager Tim Rogers said. "We've been playing well, and we're ready to give it our best."
Westport went 3-1 during pool play in the tournament, with its only loss an 11-10 setback to Edgewood in its second game. Westport made several uncharacteristic errors in that game, its only loss in postseason competition.
Westport bounced back with a vengeance, defeating Beacon Falls, 11-1, and North Stamford, 12-0, to reach the championship game. Edgewood also finished 3-1 in pool play.
The Westport All-Stars finished pool play Monday with its big win over North Stamford, highlighted by a grand slam by Chad Knight. The team reached the Section 1 tournament by finishing undefeated in winning the District 2 tournament, including a 4-2 decision over Fairfield American in the championship game.
The Section 1 winner advances to the best-of-3 state championship series beginning Saturday in Willimantic. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday, and the Game 3, if necessary, will be played Tuesday.
