Fairfield's Libraries Open as Cooling Centers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Richard Felner has a message for Fairfielders: If you start feeling too hot, head to the library. Felner and Public Health Director Sands Cleary designated the Fairfield Public Library’s two branches as public cooling centers for the upcoming wave of 90-degree days.

The National Weather Service predicts high temperatures and high humidity through the weekend for the Fairfield area. Wednesday’s temperatures should hit the mid-80s, with the heat climbing into the low 90s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The humidity should also push the heat index into the 100s.

Both of the library’s branches are fully air-conditioned. The Main Library, at 1080 Old Post Road, is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Fairfield Woods Branch Library, at 1147 Fairfield Woods Road, is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week. Both branches close at 6 p.m. Friday, at 5 p.m. Saturday, and closed Sunday.
