GRAFTON, Mass. - The New England Buddhist Vihara, a meditation center located in Grafton, is hosting a one-day retreat on Saturday.

Located in a wooded lot at 162 Old Upton Road near Silver Lake, the event is designed for both experienced and inexperienced practitioners. It will be held on Dec. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Bhante Dhammaloka will guide us that day," said Bhante Aluth Dhammajothi, the abbot of the center. He said Dhammaloka was born and raised in Sri Lanka, and has been living and teaching in the U.S. since 1998.

The day will include guided meditation, yoga instruction, Sri Lankan food, and sermons from Dhammalokka on balancing the mind and body.

"Not everyone can stay the entire day, but they are invited to attend a portion," Dhammajothi said.

Dhammajothi said the center location is ideal because it is quiet and rustic. His center relocated from Framingham in 2011 when they discovered the property for sale.

Inside, the house is heated by a wood-burning stove; a five-foot, gold Buddha statue sits on an altar with fresh flowers.

The event is free, but donations of any amount are appreciated and are tax deductible. For more information, contact the New England Buddhist Society at (508) 839-5038, or
