HOLDEN, Mass. — To help the American Red Cross maintain a safe and available blood supply, a blood drive will be held at the Fellowship Church in Holden on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

The Red Cross is hoping to collect at least 50 life-saving pints of blood at this drive, and residents from all surrounding towns are invited to participate. All donors will receive a coupon good for a free bagel with cream cheese courtesy of The Bagel inn.

The Red Cross must collect 3,000 pints of blood every day to meet the basic needs of patients throughout the New England Region.

In the United States, blood is needed for transfusions every two seconds. All blood types are needed, but blood type O is the universal donor and always in great need.

Donors should in good health, weigh 110 pounds or more, and have not given blood in the past 56 days. The American Red Cross requires donors to show an identification. Donors must be also be least 17 years old or 16 with a signed parental consent form.

The drive will be 2 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at Fellowship Church at 325 Bullard St.

To schedule an appointment to donate, call 1-800-REDCROSS or visit its website. Appointments are preferred, but walk-in donors are also welcome.
